Dental Implant Process

Being that we specialize in both restorative dentistry and oral surgery, our Albuquerque dentists and surgeons will work together to help you choose which implant option is best for you, then develop an individualized treatment plan. On the day of your procedure, a small post made of titanium will be implanted into the bone of the socket of the missing tooth. While you heal, the post will be anchored into place as the jawbone grows around the post, which can take anywhere from six to 12 weeks. During your next appointment, an abutment, which is essentially a small connector post, will be attached to the implanted titanium post. If dental crowns are included in your treatment plan, impressions of the tooth or teeth you’re replacing will be made, replicated into crowns, and are then attached to the abutment. If you’re getting partials or dentures, attachments to support those will be added. Both crowns and dentures will be matched to the existing size, color, and shape of your natural teeth, and because they’re anchored to your jaw, they’ll feel and function like natural teeth, too!
